Water World officials say they’ve been prepping the park for it’s opening; cleaning and testing the pools to make sure everything is working properly, as well as interviewing and hiring staff.

They say it’s not just about getting the pools ready, water world officials are making sure their employees are ready too.

“In house, we teach American Red Cross lifeguard training classes and we choose from that crop of candidates, the best people for the job, the ones that really could perform and rescue people, ” says Kelly Carter, Aquatics Manager of Water World.

Water world will be open Saturday, May 3rd.

Man Is Building A Roller Coaster in His Back Yard!!!

Man Building a Roller Coaster in His Backyard

Everyone loves amusement park rides. Will Pemble and his son Lyle are no different. They love to visit amusement parks and ride the roller coasters. So naturally, one day, when returning home from an amusement park, Lyle asked, “Why don’t we build our own roller coaster, Dad?” The rest is history.

So the pair set out to build themselves a backyard roller coaster. They call the project Coaster Dad and Will regularly updates their website, showing off their progress. As the video shows, the coaster is looking pretty awesome already:

The track is made from parallel PVC pipes on a lumber frame. Right now, Will is working on another cart made from a steel frame with skateboard wheels, with independent axles. If that isn’t enough, he wants to add a pedal mechanism so you can get a little extra speed on the rises. Pretty cool.

Now he just needs to figure out how to do loops and corkscrews.

Casino Pier In Seaside Heights Gearing Up For 2nd Post-Sandy Summer

Iconic Jet Star Roller Coaster Damaged By Hurricane Sandy Torn DownApril 29, 2014–Seaside Heights, N.J.,
Nearly a year and a half after superstorm Sandy, the Jersey Shore is preparing for another summer season.
From the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, there is optimism for this second summer post-Sandy.
“We’re all being positive and we’re praying,” said Vincent Storino, a managing member of Casino Pier.

He noted they are leaps and bounds ahead of those bleak days after the Oct. 2012 storm.

“Over the last year and a half, we’ve come tremendous. Where you’re standing right now, a year ago didn’t exist,” Storino said.

But he noted, “it’s not what we had in 2012.”

About 24 rides will be open on Casino Pier this summer, more than there were in 2013.

But the amusement park where the Jet Star Roller Coaster once stood is still not back to full strength.

Storino said the goal is to make the pier whole again.

“There will be some sort of roller coaster, we’re in the works now for multiple phases of plans you’re going to see over the next couple years,” said Storino .

Gravity Coaster Coming to Storybook Land!!

3566411_GApril 29, 2014–
Storybook Land is a place kids and parents can go to have a good time.

“I come here with my dad and mom,” Joshua Chambers said. Chambers heads to the park often. The Aberdeen Sertoma Club, and Parks and Recreation Department have some new ideas to bring a little more fun to the park.
“The first ride to be put in place will be the gravity coaster, it’ll be a really nice addition to the park,” Parks and Rec. Director Doug Johnson said.

Right now Storybook Land has only a few rides, but what they do have is popular amongst guests. Plans for improving the park, don’t stop at just a roller coaster.

“We hope to add up to maybe six or seven rides in the near future,” Johnson said.

They also plan on updating the castle that is over 30 years old. People of Aberdeen say they are excited for the updates, and some already have plans for when the gravity coaster is up and running. “I’ll ride on it everyday,” Storybook Land visitor Dawson Swick said

If everything goes according to plan, the coaster should be up and running near Humpty Dumpty by next summer.

Storybook Land is free to visit, and in order for these upgrades to happen, funding assistance is needed. There will be opportunities to sponsor coaster cars, seats, steel track or a square foot block. If you are interested in purchasing a square foot block applications are available by contacting the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department at their website http://www.aberdeen.sd.us/storybookland.

At Storybook Land, families enjoy a world of imagination inspired by familiar nursery rhymes such as Humpty Dumpty and Hickory Dickory Dock. You can slide down Jack and Jill’s Hill or visit Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Chickens and turkeys roam wild around Old MacDonald’s Barn.

The medieval castle is surrounded by a moat and is guarded by knights in armor. The entire family will enjoy a ride on the Storybook Land Express miniature train.

Battleship Cove Carousel to Re-Open!!!

ebb733cf1e9ab07de6b16802707b91d0April 29, 2014–Fall River,
The antique wooden carousel near Battleship Cove will be ready for riders by Memorial Day after being shuttered for repairs last August.

Over the winter the pavilion got a new roof and minor work on the carousel got it running again after it broke down last summer, said Kenneth Fiola Jr., vice president of the Fall River Office of Economic Development, the entity that owns the old carousel.

The ride, built in 1920, was originally part of Lincoln Park amusement park in Dartmouth. When the park closed, the carousel was nearly shipped to New York to be auctioned off, but was rescued by a group of Fall River business owners.

The carousel reopened in Fall River on May 22, 1992, after it was refurbished. More than 250,000 riders enjoyed the carousel the first year.

The carousel is located on Department of Conservation and Recreation land at Fall River Heritage State Park.
