“Universal’s New Transformers On Track”

1361840352557Bumble Bee and other Transformers Characters will soon call Universal Studio Florida home. The ride is on track for a summer debut. No date has been set yet.

Orlando–  There’s more than meets the eye taking place at Universal Studios Florida.

One of the construction cranes on the Universal Orlando skyline is now gone, as the new Transformers ride building is sealed up tight. Theming elements recently appeared on the facade of the new building. The structure will house a ride similar in nature to Islands of Adventure’s ” The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman ” A portion of the safety fences around the Transformer’s construction site came down within the past few days. Work now continues on the interior of the building. Inside, riders will move from scene to scene aboard vehicles that move on a central track.

Since the space is limited in the park, designers used a two-story footprint for the ride. Passenger cars will enter lifts or “elevators” that will carry riders between floors to maximize square footage.

Crews began working 24 hours-a-day in June 2012. Building the new ride was a challenge, since the construction site is located in the middle of a theme park that is open every day of the year. The ride is located behind Shrek 4-D theatre and Universal Studios Florida’s central lake. The shuttered theatre building formally home to the Hercules and Xena show was leveled for Transformers.

A Universal Orlando spokesperson tells News 13 the “Grand Opening” is still slated to take place sometime this summer. In preparation, Transformers merchandise has appeared on the shelves of Universal Orlando gift stores at the original Studios park and in CityWalk.

news_lb6533494031_775d7847fela-trb-liseberg-projekt-helix-coaster-02201320-013th720_9626c4b1590186d421c8ffd448824b9aIn 2014, Liseberg will launch a new roller coaster- longer and faster than any other coaster in the park. It’s the park’s biggest investment ever. The working title of the project is” Projekt Helix”.

– It has extra of everything !  The ambition is to build a ride which is two minutes of pure fun. When we built Balder, we built the world’s best wooden roller coaster, so we have a high standard to live up to, says Andreas Andersen, President and CEO of Liseberg.

The track is almost 1.4 km (4500 feet) long and the ride lasts for almost two minutes. Along the track are two launches where the coaster is accelerated using Linear Synchronous Motors (LSM). It will be the first multi-launch coaster in Europe. The ride will include six inversions, four airtime hills and plenty of drops, turns, and twists.

With speeds up to 100km/h (62 mph.) this new coaster will be the fastest one in the park. It will also be the most technologically advanced coaster in the park. It’s manufactured by the German company Mack Rides Gmb.

-With Mack Rides’s Blue Fire technology we can offer a ride that has comfort, smoothness, and freedom. You can do almost anything with the track system and we have tried to use that advantage to the limit, says Andreas Andersen. The construction work will start as soon as the park closes this fall and continue over next year. The 3D – Cinema Maxxima will close for good in order to make room for the new coaster station building. And the new roller coaster will premiere in Spring 2014.

“Projekt Helix” Facts- Investment: 200 million SEK (E 23 million) Total Length: app. 1355m (4,445 feet) Max Velocity: 100km/h (62 mph ) Max Height: 41m (135 feet) Max Acceleration:4,2g Total Ride Cycle Time: 110 seconds Capacity:app.1310 passengers per hour.

Projekt Helix will have it’s own website

Liseberg currently has three major roller coasters: Lisebergbanan(1987).Balder(2003) and Kanonen(2005). Over the years Liseberg has also hosted coasters such as: Berg-och dalbanan(1923-1987), Super 8 (1966-1979), Lisebergsloopen (1980-1995)and HangOver(1996-2002).

Futhermore, Liseberg has had a number of roller coasters for children. The first one was called Lilla Bergbanan and opened in 1977. It was commonly called Lady Bug because of the train’s design being modeled after a Lady Bug.In 1986 the attraction was redesigned and it’s name was changed to Cirkusexpressen, until 2008 when it was replaced by a new roller coaster called Rabalder, which is still in the park.

In 2013 Liseberg will launch another coaster for even smaller children- Stampbanan.

“Hong Kong Disneyland Expansion Plan Includes Third Hotel”

untitledHong Kong Disneyland and the government are in talks over the theme park’s expansion plan’s, a tourism official said on Monday.

Philip Yung Wai-hung, the Tourism Commission Chief, said planning was underway to expand the park on seven hectares of land unused during the park’s first phase of development.

Speaking a Legislative Council Economic Development Panel session,Tung said the expansion plans included adding a third hotel to the park. The two current hotels have about 1,000 rooms between them.

“We are now doing the design, and we aim to report to the Legislature within the year on the design and financial arrangements”, he said.

Andrew Kam Min-ho, Managing Director of the theme park, said his team has been mulling over a dozen proposals, trying to shortlist one or two for the final decision.”Some are feasible, but some are not”,he said. Lawmaker Michael Tien Puk-sun was concerned about whether Hong Kong’s 27-hectare theme park- among the smallest in the world- could rise to the challenge of Shanghai’s Disneyland, which is now under construction.

“What expansion plans do we have? Are we going to have a theme park the same size as an American one? Or will we stay a second-class theme park rather than first class?” he said.

Hong Kong’s Disneyland made a profit of HK$109 million-it’s first profit since opening in 2005 in the fiscal year to last September.

Kam said the new attractions that opened last year gave a big boost to admissions and revenue. About 6.7 million tourists, up by 13 percent, visited the park last year, with 45 percent from Mainland China. It registered revenue of HK$4.2 billion.
